Local Awards

Chapters are encouraged to develop their own awards program. The Region Three and International Awards Programs are to supplement and complement all chapter awards and are not meant, nor should they be construed in any manner, to replace or negate those awards. Chapters that need assistance when developing their own programs may contact the Region Three Awards Coordinator.

Regional Awards

The Region Three Awards were developed to recognize individuals, chapters and others associated with STARFLEET the International Star Trek Fan Association for outstanding and meritorious service to others and the ideas of Star Trek.

Awards are given, when appropriate, by the Region Three Coordinator and the Region Three Awards Coordinator, upon recommendation of a chapter's Commanding Officer and/or the Reporting Officer. While any STARFLEET member may nominate any one for any award, the recommendation must come through the chapter's Commanding Officer and/or Reporting Officer. This list is provided in order to acquaint members with the awards, purpose and official decorations. All recipients will receive the proper uniform insignia and certificate of achievement signed by the Region Three Coordinator, Region Three Awards Coordinator and in some instances, by the Region Three Division Chief of their appropriate department. The Awards are listed later on, in ascending order.

Guidelines and Criteria

Submissions shall follow the guidelines as outlined on the Region Three Awards Submission Form. Any member of Region Three may be submitted for any award, provided they meet all of the requirements of said award. However, only one submission per form will be accepted. All submissions not entered via the Region Three Awards Submission Form should be typed or computer generated whenever possible. Illegible submissions will be returned.

Nominations should be submitted by the chapter's CO, or an authorized representative to the Region Three Awards Coordinator for consideration by the Region Three Awards Committee via the Region Three Awards Submission Form. For Annual Awards, each Chapter may submit ONE nominee per category, per year.

All annual Region Three Awards shall be presented at the Region Three Summit. Members who receive an Annual Region Three Award will be submitted for the corresponding International Award (if one exists).

Individual Awards

Region Three CommendationREGION THREE COMMENDATION

Region Three Citations are issued by the Awards Coordinator upon recommendation of note worthy participation, action or service by any STARFLEET member.

Purple HeartPURPLE HEART
(Purple triangle pin with White border)
Region Three Purple Hearts are issued by the Region's Awards Coordinator upon recommendation of a action or service of any Region Three member who has been injured (paper cuts do not count) in the line of duty - while participating in a Community Service event, a Regional and/or STARFLEET function.

Iron StarIRON STAR

The Iron Star is given for cooperative action and/or leadership within a local chapter or department. Such action need not be STARFLEET related. May be awarded upon an instance of leadership within a member's local chapter, city or state.

Silver PillarSILVER PILLAR
(Silver triangle pin with White border)
The Silver Pillar is given for cooperative action and/or leadership within a members local chapter or department. Such action should be STARFLEET related. May be awarded upon an instance of leadership within a member's sector or state.

Legion of MeritLEGION OF MERIT
(Red triangle pin with White border)
The Legion of Merit is given for leadership on a state wide or geographical area basis. Should be STARFLEET related and have two recommendations from different active chapters in good standing.

Gold PillarGOLD PILLAR
(Gold triangle pin with White border)
The Golden Pillar is given for outstanding effort and leadership on a chapter and/or regional basis. Two recommendations from different chapters in good standing, with explanation, are required for nomination.

Crystal StarCRYSTAL STAR
(Maroon triangle pin with White border and star)
Given to a member for outstanding leadership on a regional and / or international basis. Two recommendations from Captains (or above) of chapters in good standing, with explanations, are required for nomination. Recommendations must be based on STARFLEET related actions.

Steven 'Doc' Jessup Distinguished Service AwardSTEVEN 'DOC' JESSUP DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The Distinguished Service Award is awarded to outstanding STARFLEET members who have contributed beyond the call of duty to their Chapter, Region or Fleet. The DSA is awarded to qualified nominees by the RC upon the recommendation of the Awards Coordinator. Two recommendations from Captains (or above) of chapters in good standing, with full explanations, are required for nomination.

Region Three Glen Corbin CrossREGION THREE GLEN CORBIN CROSS
(Maroon triangle pin with White border and cross)
The Region Three Cross is for outstanding STARFLEET members who have earned a DSA and have continued to contribute to the welfare and growth of the Region and Fleet. Two recommendations from Captains (or above) of chapters in good standing, with full explanations, are required for nomination.

Polaris Award, 2nd Order (Blue)POLARIS AWARD, 2nd Order (Blue)
The Polaris Award, 2nd Order is the second highest individual award in Region Three. Nominees must have recommendations from three (3) Captains (or above) of chapters in good standing with full explanations. Given at the discretion of the Region Three Coordinator.

Polaris Award, 1st Order (Black)POLARIS AWARD, 1st Order (Black)
The Polaris Award, 1st Order is the highest individual award given in Region Three. Nominees must have recommendations from five (5) Captains (or above) of chapters in good standing with full explanations. Given at the discretion of the Region Three Coordinator.

Annual Awards

Scholastic AchievementSCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT
(Blue triangle pin)
Awarded to Region Three members who have achieved excellence (a grade point average of 3.0 or above) in academic studies on a consistent basis. Submissions should be accompanied by a copy of a report card, if possible.

Volunteer of the YearVOLUNTEER AWARD
(Green triangle pin)

Awarded to Region Three members who have made an impact in a volunteer / community service effort, does not have to be STARFLEET related. May also be awarded for providing emergency care (medical or otherwise) to individual(s) during a traumatic situation (i.e. life threatening). Nominations must include a detailed description with all accounts of the incident.

Newsletter of the YearNEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR
(White triangle pin with Black border)
Contains items of interest on a local level, but also includes regional news. In addition to maintaining a high level of accuracy with a significant degree of professionalism, it should be informative, educational and entertaining.

Junior Member of the YearJUNIOR MEMBER OF THE YEAR
(Red triangle pin)
Awarded to a junior member of Region Three, 17 and under, who has shown through participation and dedication (i.e., school activities, scholastic achievement, Region Three functions) a conviction in the belief of STARFLEET and the future through action and deeds.

Enlisted Member of the YearENLISTED MEMBER OF THE YEAR (PO3 - MCPO)

Awarded to a enlisted member of Region Three for outstanding membership on a local and regional basis who has shown the most unfailing quantity of "getting the job done", no matter how small or great the task, during an award year.

Shuttle of the YearSHUTTLE OF THE YEAR
(Silver triangle pin with Maroon border and Black writing -- year of award)
Awarded to the most exceptional Shuttle in Region Three. One that demonstrates the best qualities of and the potential to become an ideal chapter. Those qualities should include chapter newsletter, prompt and proper reporting procedures to all reporting agencies, and involvement with other chapters on a local and regional level. This involvement should not only include FLEET related activities, but local community activities.

Chapter of the YearCHAPTER OF THE YEAR
(Gold triangle pin with Maroon border and Black writing -- year of award)
Awarded to the most distinguished chapter in Region Three. Representing STARFLEET, this chapter as a whole represents the spirit and determination of STARFLEET, The International STAR TREK Fan Association, Inc. A chapter which exemplifies the best of STARFLEET is an organization which promotes the basic philosophy of Star Trek.

Officer of the YearOFFICER OF THE YEAR (Ensign & Above)
(Maroon triangle pin with Silver writing -- year of award)
Awarded for outstanding direction on a local and regional basis. Given to the officer (Line or Staff) of a chapter who has shown the most consistent level of guidance and leadership during an award year by action, deed, and word.

Member of the YearMEMBER OF THE YEAR
(Maroon triangle pin with Gold writing -- year of award)
Awarded to the Region Three member (Enlisted or Commissioned) who through his/her endeavor has shown the solid quantities of direction, belief and conduct through community service and/or scholastic accomplishments, in addition to those involved through chapter functions that STARFLEET and Star Trek represent.

International Awards

The STARFLEET International Awards Program was developed to recognize individuals and chapters in STARFLEET for outstanding and meritorious service to STARFLEET, the ideals of Star Trek, and the community.

Scholastic Achievement Award
Awarded to an individual who has achieved excellence (grade point average of 3.5 or above) in academic studies on a consistent basis. Copy of report card or current transcript is required.

Newsletter and Website Awards
Handled by the Communications Department and thus are not listed on the above STARFLEET International Awards Program site.

Helping Hands Award
Awarded to the individual who has made the most impact in a volunteer or community service effort, whether STARFLEET-related or otherwise. It may also be awarded to a member who provides emergency care (medical or otherwise) to another individual during a traumatic (i.e. life threatening) situation. In that case, nominations must include a detailed description of the incident, preferably including accounts from witnesses or involved individuals, if available.

Junior Member of the Year Award
This award is reserved for members 18 years old or younger. The junior member of the year, to the best of his or her abilities, takes an active role in chapter and STARFLEET functions and demonstrates commitment to the organization through both word and action. The junior member of the year also demonstrates the potential for leadership, consistent conduct in accordance with the philosophy of Star Trek, and support for the series' vision of a positive future through community service and scholastic accomplishment (where appropriate), in addition to participation in STARFLEET and chapter functions.

Enlisted Member of the Year Award
This award is reserved for members who hold the rank of PO3 through CPO. This award is given to the individual who best displays, through his/her individual contributions, consistent support for and contribution to STARFLEET, as well as a consistent level of direction, as appropriate. The enlisted member of the year also demonstrates consistent conduct in accordance with the philosophy of Star Trek, and supports the series' vision of a positive future through community service and scholastic accomplishment (where appropriate), in addition to participation in STARFLEET and chapter functions. This individual is willing to do what it takes to get a quality job done quickly and efficiently.

Shuttle of the Year Award
Awarded to the most exceptional STARFLEET shuttle. The shuttle of the year best demonstrates the qualities of and the potential to become an ideal ship or station. These qualities should include a chapter newsletter, prompt and proper reporting to their RC and STARFLEET Operations/ShOC, effective chapter structure and organization, and involvement in Regional or Fleet activities when possible. This shuttle should be the one which best exemplifies the principles of the ShOC Program for developing chapters, and which best serves as a role model for other chapters-in-training.

Chapter of the Year Award
This is awarded to the most distinguished STARFLEET chapter. This chapter best represents the ideals of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Club Association, Inc., and, as a whole, represents the spirit and determination of SFI. Qualifications for the chapter of the year include promotion of the basic philosophy of STAR TREK, involvement in community and/or charitable service, promotion of activities and projects that are fun for the chapter members, solid administration, and a vision for the future.

Officer of the Year Award
This award is reserved for officers who hold the rank of Ensign or higher. This award is given to the individual who best demonstrates outstanding direction, a consistent level of guidance for fellow members, and leadership in STARFLEET through both word and action. The officer of the year also demonstrates consistent conduct in accordance with the philosophy of Star Trek, and supports the series' vision of a positive future through community service and scholastic accomplishment (where appropriate), in addition to participation in STARFLEET and chapter functions.

Member of the Year Award
This award is given to the individual who best embodies the ideals, visions, and philosophy of Star Trek, as illustrated in the various series, as well as demonstrating consistent support for and contribution to STARFLEET. The member of the year takes an active role in chapter and STARFLEET functions and demonstrates commitment to the organization through both word and action. The member of the year also demonstrates consistent conduct in accordance with the philosophy of Star Trek, and supports the series' vision of a positive future through community service and scholastic accomplishment (where appropriate), in addition to participation in STARFLEET and chapter functions. This individual serves as a role model for all personnel.
